Mat-Su College is hosting a reception today in honor of Dr. P.T. Chang, who was recently named the Alaska winner in the U.S. Professors of the Year competition, held by the Carnegie Foundation.
Chang, who is a professor of mathematics, was one of 46 state winners honored by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching.
The Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching is a research and policy center devoted to strengthening the nation's colleges and universities.
Judges look for extraordinary dedication to undergraduate teaching demonstrated by excellence in four areas -- the impact on undergraduate students, scholarly approaches to teaching, contributions to undergraduate education and support from colleagues and former students.
Four national winners each receive $5,000 and a trip to the awards ceremony.
Chang has been teaching in the University of Alaska system since 1992 and has won numerous awards and earned recognition for his efforts.
Chang will be honored at a reception, which is scheduled for today at 3 p.m. in the atrium of Mat-Su College.
