Mat-Su Community Schools planning ski getaways

MAT-SU - The Mat-Su Community Schools (MSCS) is planning a ski and snowboard event at Alyeska this winter.

MSCS is organizing eight trips to Alyeska, the state's top ski resort destination.

Buses will transport skiers and snowboarders from two Valley locations to the Girdwood-area ski resort and back.

The eight Saturday ski days are Dec. 2, Dec. 16, Jan. 13, Jan. 27, Feb. 10, Feb. 24, March 10 and March 31.

There are two options for interested skiers and snowboarders:

All lift tickets to Alyeska, with eight rentals, with two lessons on the December dates for $460.

All lift tickets to Alyeska, without rentals, for $375. There will be lessons on the December dates, just like the first option.

The program will only continue if there are 45 people per bus, with a maximum of 52 people per bus.

After 52 skiers have registered for the program, a third bus may be added, event organizers said.

Buses will leave Carrs in Wasilla and Palmer by 7:30 a.m. and return at 6:30 p.m. after a full day of skiing and snowboarding.

To register for the program, interested people need to pick up a packet at Wasilla Middle School or the community schools office at 3901 E. Bogard Road in Wasilla.

Once the program begins, there are no refunds.

All skiers must register for the program at the community schools office no later than Nov. 22.
