WASILLA — The Mat-Su Concert Band is hosting its final concert of the season at the Glenn Massay Theater Saturday, May 6.
Titled, "Spring Fling," the upcoming concert will feature a variety of musical compositions including an original arrangements composed by a local flute duet.
According to Mat-Su Concert Band member Drewcilla Shumake, the locally crafted song is a unique blend of Mozart and rock. She said their work is just another example of local creativity at work.
"We have so much talent in the Valley that people don't even realize," Shumake said.
Shumake said the concert will also feature numerous popular marches and songs featured in popular media such as West "Side Story" and "Top Gun."
The Mat-Su Concert Band is taking the summer off and is set to return in the fall for another season.
"We're excited to finish the year strong," she said. "It's always bitter sweet to finish the year."
The Mat-Su Concert Band is actively seeking members for all departments.
"It's a diverse background for one cause," Shumake said.
