Led by Caelyn Carter’s big weekend, Mat-Su earned a runner-up finish in the team standings during the 2024 NYO Senior Games in Anchorage.
Carter, a Wasilla sophomore, earned the Autumn Apok Ridley Overall Athlete Award for the girls.
Carter won three events during the three-day senior games, She was first in the Alaskan High kick with a mark of 74 inches. She won the scissor broad jump with a distance of 29 feet, 8 inches. Carter was also first in the kneel jump with a mark of 45.25 inches.
She was also fourth in the two foot high kick and seal hop.
Carter was one of three Mat-Su athletes to win events. Myles Campbell won the boys two foot at 88 inches. Eulalia Roman was first in the girls wrist carry, with a distance of 270 feet, 6.5 inches.
Kamryn Petito (girls wrist carry) and Bay Rose Kauffman (girls Eskimo stick pull) placed second; Myles Campbell (boys scissor broad jump and seal hop), Mya Campbell (girls one foot high kick) and Daisy VanBlarcom (girls two foot high kick) were third; VanBlarcom (girls one fit high kick) finished third; and Samantha Sample (girls Indian stick pull) was fifth.
Daniel Rodgers (boys Alaskan high jump) and Maya Boger (girls kneel jump) led Chickaloon with third-place finishes.
Richard Stick led Knik Tribal with a fourth-place finish in the boys toe kick.
