The Mat-Su Home Builders Association (MSHBA) announced that this year’s ‘Golf Fore a Cause’ tournament raised $10,000, which was split evenly to benefit two important causes: the Cullenberg Family, whose young son is facing his second battle with leukemia, and MSHBA’s long-standing Coats for Kids program.
According to a press release, the tournament, held on Friday, June 27 at Settlers Bay Golf Course, brought together over 150 local builders, contractors, business owners, and community members, all united by a shared commitment to giving back.
“This tournament has always been about more than just golf,” said Sarah Lazzarotto, executive director with MSHBA, said in the release. “It’s about building community, lifting up our neighbors, and showing that our industry cares. Raising $5,000 for the Cullenbergs and $5,000 for Coats for Kids is something we’re incredibly proud of.”
Funds donated to the Cullenberg Family will help ease the financial burden of ongoing medical care, as son Isaak fights relapsed leukemia, news that came after he had gone through 13 months of chemotherapy. While initially admitted to Providence Medical in Anchorage for a month of re-induction chemotherapy treatments, doctors reported he hadn’t fully responded to treatment and the family medevaced back to Seattle Children's Hospital for the second time. Presently Isaak will likely undergo 2 more months of chemo and immunotherapy, before a highly likely bone marrow transplant, which would be three more months out of state.
Funds will also be donated to Coats for Kids, which provides coats and warm winter gear to local children in need as the season approaches.
MSHBA extends sincere thanks to its lead sponsor Builders Choice and supporting sponsor Spenard Builders Supply for their continued partnership and generosity.
Additional appreciation goes to the following local businesses that hosted independent fundraising efforts to further support the cause: Alaska Waste ($1,200), Bin There Dump That ($500), and Bigfoot Builders ($1,845).
Their extra efforts helped amplify the impact of the tournament while demonstrating the true spirit of giving in the Mat-Su community.
