Veterans in the Mat-Su Valley seeking federal employment opportunities have a local resource to help navigate the complexities of USAJOBS.gov, with a USA Jobs Informational Workshop on April 30.
With federal agencies focusing on talent engagement and resume optimization, the Mat-Su Job Center, located at 877 Commercial Drive, is hosting resources to help applicants develop competitive applications for federal positions, including roles with the Department of Veterans Affairs and other agencies.
Key Resources Available for Job Seekers:
--Resume Optimization: Specialized assistance in drafting two-page federal resumes, which differ significantly from private-sector resumes.
--USAJOBS.gov Navigation: Expert guidance on setting up user accounts and locating relevant federal vacancies in Alaska.
--Application Training: Tips on how to successfully highlight skills for federal employers, including veterans, military spouses, and individuals with disabilities.
Location: Mat-Su Job Center, 877 Commercial Drive, Wasilla, AK 99654.
Hours: Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Services: Drop-in computer skills tutoring is available on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
This assistance comes as employers in Alaska are operating in a competitive environment, with many employers filtering applicants based on highly tailored, sometimes AI-assisted resumes. The local job center aims to bridge this gap for Mat-Su residents by providing "earn while you learn" apprenticeship information and direct help with federal applications.
For more information or to schedule a tailored session, residents can contact the Mat-Su Job Center at (907) 352-2500 or email matsu.jobcenter@alaska.gov.
