Mat-Su professor honored

A popular Mat-Su College professor was recently named the 2001 Alaskan Professor of the Year, which is given by the Carengie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching, and the Council for Advancement and Support of Education.

Dr. Ping-Tung Chang, the math department chair at Mat-Su College, received his award from Rep. Vic Kohring on Oct. 16. Kohring presented Chang with a framed certificate signed by members of the Alaska Legislature.

The informal ceremony was held in Snodgrass Hall on the Mat-Su College campus, during the Math Club's regular bi-weekly meeting. Numerous guests attended the ceremony.

Chang has been honored with numerous awards throughout his career. In 1998, he received the University of Alaska's Teaching Excellence award, and that same year he received the Chancellor's Outstanding Faculty award. In 1998-99, he received the Mathematical Association of American Pacific Northwest Section award, and he has now been honored by the Legislature twice.
