Mat-Su Ravens rally to score girls hockey win

PALMER — Mikhayla Waugaman scored twice during a 14-second span to push the Mat-Su Ravens to a 3-2 win over Service-East at the Palmer Ice Arena Tuesday.

Waugaman tied the score at 1-1 at the 5:57 mark of the third, and scored again 14 seconds later to give the Ravens the 2-1 lead.

Later in the third, Waugaman set up teammate Carrie Glatz to cap the three-goal third period.

Senior Dominique Schuetter recorded 13 saves to earn the win in the Mat-Su net. The Ravens scored on three of their five third-period shot.

Last Saturday, Kristi Gray scored early to give the Ravens a 1-0 lead, but South-Bartlett scored four unanswered goals to grab a 4-1 win over Mat-Su at the McDonald Ice Arena in Eagle River.

Sophomore Casey Branch made 21 saves.

Service blanks Palmer

PALMER — The Service Cougars outshot Palmer 49-6 en route to an 8-0 nonconference win over the Moose at the Palmer Ice Arena on Tuesday.

Senior Jonas Naegele collected 41 saves for the Moose, and stopped 16 of the 17 shots he saw during the second period.

Palmer returns to the ice to face rival Colony tonight at 7 p.m. at the Palmer Ice Arena.
