The Matanuska Susitna Borough School District (MSBSD) held a very quick special meeting to administer the Oath of Office and hold elections to the officers of the school board Nov. 29.
Dr. Randy Trani, Superintendent of MSBSD, chaired the meeting and administered the Oath of Office to re-elected incumbents Kathy McCollum and long-time board member Ole Larson.
Once that was completed, Dr. Trani took nominations for the next school board president, Member Larson nominated member Jubilee Underwood, which was quickly met with a second before being unanimously voted into the office.
Member McCollum was elected as Vice-President and Member Kendall Kruse was elected as Clerk.
The meeting was quickly adjourned as there were no comments from the Board, nor was there any other agenda item.
The next meeting of the MSBSD school board will be a special meeting next Wednesday, December 6 at 4:00pm, when the board will get to select a candidate to fill in for Jacob Butcher, who resigned the day before the Mat-Su Borough elections after taking a job out-of-state.
There are nine candidates who have thrown their hat into the ring, and each will have an opportunity to give a short statement and the board members will have 5 minutes to interview them before the school board gets to pick the newest member.
