Mat-Su Ski Club hosts final race of season

HATCHER PASS — The Mat-Su Ski Club hosted the final race of the 2010-11 season in Alaska, the 7-kilometer Race to the Outhouse with a total climb of 880 feet on Archangel Road in Hatcher Pass.

Amanda Del Frate won the junior women’s skate race with a time of 34 minutes and 53 seconds, while Toben Swortz was the top athlete in the junior boys class, finishing in 40:13.

Aaron Brillhart won the senior men’s skate race, with a mark of 34:55. Colony High ski coach Sue Skvorc was first in the master women’s skate race with a time of 41:25. Greg Del Frate was first in the master men’s skate race, finishing at 35:32.

Mark Stiger placed second in that class at 38:50.

Roger and Mary Kemppel swept the veterans men’s and women’s skate races. Roger clocked a time of 44:15, while Mary finished at 64:00.

Staci Stigar, the lone racer to complete both the fall and spring Race to the Outhouse, was first in the touring division.

The Mat-Su Ski Club will groom Archangel Road through the month of April and possibly into May. Check the Club website, matsuskiclub.org, for grooming updates.
