Warriors in search of football coach

Wasilla High School is currently accepting applications for its vacaant head varsity football coach position. Applicants with prior successful experience coaching or competiing at a highly competitive level are asked to submit a letter of application and current reseme to the Wasilla High activities office. The deadline for application is Feb. 14.

Vintage races rev up

An AMMC Vintage Series snowmachine race will begin at noon, Jan. 30 at Houston Lodge. Cost is $25 per class and racers pay $5 fee each day. Door prizes, warming areas and food will be available. A second vintage event is at noon, Feb. 5 at Willow Lake. Cost is $25 for the first class per sled and $15 per each additional class. Mid-Valley Wrestling open to registration

Mid-Valley Wrestling Club has opened its registration. Those interested can email midvalleywrestling@live.com to reuquest a registration packet. Completed paper work and club fee can be mailed to the club.

The club includes freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling, for girls and boys of any skill level, ages pre-K to adult. The club fee is $50 and a USA Wrestling card is $40. New members receive a T-shirt. The season starts in February and runs through May. For more information, contact Shar at 373-5155.

Tri-Valley Wrestling registration open

Registration is now open for the 2011 Tri-Valley Wrestling Club season at trivalleywrestling.com. A membership meeting is scheduled for Feb. 9 at 7 p.m. at Colony High.

Pro wrestling coming to Colony

The National Wrestling Alliance professional wrestling is coming to Colony High School at 7 p.m., April 1, sponsored by the Colony Knights Boosters as a fund-raiser for the football team.

Main event will be an NWA Midsouth title match featuring “The Human Highlight Reel” Austin Lane against Midsouth Idol Derrick King. NWA is also working on adding former ECW champion, TNA XDivision and WWE Lightweight champion Jerry Lynn for a possible three-way main event. Semi-main event is a tag-team match featuring Ft. Richardson’s own Chainsaw Charlie and Wasilla’s own AK Lighting taking on MK 2 and Atomic Dog. The feature match for the Alaska State Heavyweight Title pits champion Michael Maddness against.

Adult tickets are $10, while students grades five through 12 get in for $5. Younger children admitted free with paid adult. Tickets go on sale Feb. 7 and can be purchased through members of the Colony Knights Boosters, Colony football coaches and members of the team. Mount Marathon applications accepted

Applications for the 84th running of the Mount Marathon race in Seward during the July 4th holiday will be accepted through March 31. Lottery results will be announced mid-April. Applications are online at seward.com. Cost is $45 for adults and $25 for juniors.

Kids can ice fish Feb. 5

An ice-fishing derby for kids will be held at Knik Lake from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., Feb. 5. Children ages 3 to 16 are invited to participate. Cost is $10 and all proceeds benefit the Alaska Make-A-Wish Foundation. For more information, call 715-4435.

WDMA hosting mid-distance race

Willow Dog Mushers Association is offering its first middle-distance race, the Willow-Tug 300, on Feb. 4, a qualifier for the Iditarod and Yukon Quest. Organizers will limit the field to 30 teams and post veteran mushers at checkpoints to help rookies. Several Iditarod veterans including hometown musher DeeDee Jonrowe have signed up.
