Mat-Su Softball Association coaches meeting planned
The Mat-Su Softball Association is holding its annual coaches meeting March 17 at the Menard Sports Center in Wasilla. The meeting will begin at 7 p.m., and there will be time available for team and player registrations until 8:30 p.m.
At the meeting, coaches will find out important information about the upcoming season from the board of directors, and receive a coach’s packet containing information about the association, a rule book and a scorebook.
Teams are filled on a first-come, first-served basis, starting at the coaches meeting. Once all slots are filled, teams will not be accepted, so please sign up early. Team registration is accepted for women’s league teams, men’s league teams and co-ed teams of all skill levels.

Baseball clinics offered
Wasilla Youth Baseball is offering clinics on the fundamentals of baseball Mondays from 6:30 to 8 p.m. for ages 10 years and younger and Tuesdays from 6:30 to 8 p.m. for ages 11 and older. Longtime coach
hosts pucks clinic
Longtime local hockey coach Eric Troisi is hosting his 19th annual spring hockey program March 22-30 at the Curtis C. Menard II Memorial Ice Arena and Brett Memorial Arena in Wasilla.
Skaters get six hours of ice time for the $150. The cost for goalies is $75. Family discounts are available.
During the clinic, players will learn new skills, eliminate bad habits and fine-tune existing talents.
The clinic is divided into three groups. The first group includes first-year squirts and younger players and meets March 22-23, 5:45-6:45 p.m. at the Menard; March 26-27, 4:30-5:30 at the Menard; and March 30 from 5:45-6:45 p.m. at the Brett.
The second-year squirts and peewees meet March 22-23, 7-8 p.m. at the Menard; March 26-27, 5:45-7:15 p.m. at the Menard and March 30, 7-8 p.m. at the Brett.
The bantams, midgets and high school players meet March 22-23, 8:15-9:15 at the Menard, March 26-27, 7:30-9 p.m. at the Menard, March 30, 8:15-9:15 at the Brett.

The Valley Women’s Running Team invites women interested in running to attend its annual informational meeting from 6 to 7:30 p.m., March 10. Join the coaches and board members for beverages and snacks at the MTA Building, 480 Commercial Drive, Palmer. Coaches will begin a presentation at 6:30 p.m. to prepare for the upcoming season. Warriors in search of football coach
Wasilla High School is currently accepting applications for its vacant head varsity football coach position. Applicants with prior successful experience coaching or competing at a highly competitive level are asked to submit a letter of application and current resumé to the Wasilla High activities office. The deadline for application is Feb. 14.

Pro wrestling
coming to Colony
The National Wrestling Alliance professional wrestling is coming to Colony High School at 7 p.m., April 1, sponsored by the Colony Knights Boosters as a fund-raiser for the football team.
Main event will be an NWA Midsouth title match featuring “The Human Highlight Reel” Austin Lane against Midsouth Idol Derrick King. NWA is also working on adding former ECW champion, TNA XDivision and WWE Lightweight champion Jerry Lynn for a possible three-way main event.
Semi-main event is a tag-team match featuring Ft. Richardson’s own Chainsaw Charlie and Wasilla’s own AK Lighting taking on MK 2 and Atomic Dog. The feature match is for the Alaska State Heavyweight Title.
Adult tickets are $10, while students grades five through 12 get in for $5. Younger children admitted free with paid adult. Tickets go on sale Feb. 7 and can be purchased through members of the Colony Knights Boosters, Colony football coaches and members of the team. For more information, call Kirk Bricker at 715-1160.
Mount Marathon applications accepted
Applications for the 84th running of the Mount Marathon race in Seward during the July 4th holiday will be accepted through March 31. Lottery results will be announced mid-April.
Applications are online at seward.com. Cost is $45 for adults and $25 for juniors.
