WDMA hosting

mid-distance race

Willow Dog Mushers Association is offering its first middle-distance race, the Willow-Tug 300, on Feb. 4, a qualifier for the Iditarod and Yukon Quest. Organizers will limit the field to 30 teams and post veteran mushers at checkpoints to help rookies. Several Iditarod veterans including hometown musher DeeDee Jonrowe have signed up. Mid-Valley Wrestling

open to registration

Mid-Valley Wrestling Club has opened its registration. Those interested can e-mail midvalleywrestling@live.com to request a registration packet. Completed paperwork and club fee can be mailed to the club.

The club includes freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling, for girls and boys of any skill level, ages pre-K to adult. The club fee is $50 and a USA Wrestling card is $40. New members receive a T-shirt. The season starts in February and runs through May. For more information, contact Shar at 373-5155.

Palmer Little League opens registration

Online registration for Palmer Little League baseball and softball is now open. Please go to our website at eteamz.com/palmerllittleleague and click to register online.

PLL is also hosting its first open registration for baseball and softball Feb. 19 from 1 to 5 p.m. at Palmer High School. At the same time,

PLL will host an open gym and clinic for all returning basetball and softball players at the major and junior level. Participants must be registered.

Palmer Little League is also hosting a board meeting Feb. 14 at 7 p.m. at the MTA building in Palmer.

MAHA organizing ‘where your jersey

to school day’

The Matanuska Amateur Hockey Association is organizing a “where your jersey to school day,” Feb. 18. It’s not just MAHA, but any team representing their own squad or favorite team to follow.

Wasilla High School is currently accepting applications for its vacant head varsity football coach position.

Applicants with prior successful experience coaching or competing at a highly competitive level are asked to submit a letter of application and current resumé to the Wasilla High activities office. The deadline for application is Feb. 14.

Tri-Valley Wrestling

Registration is now open for the 2011 Tri-Valley Wrestling Club season at trivalleywrestling.com. A membership meeting is scheduled for Feb. 9 at 7 p.m. at Colony High.

Wrestlers aged 5 to adult, regardless of experience, are welcome to participate. Call David or Kristina Booth at 746-5775 for more information.

Pro wrestling

coming to Colony

The National Wrestling Alliance professional wrestling is coming to Colony High School at 7 p.m., April 1, sponsored by the Colony Knights Boosters as a fund-raiser for the football team.

Main event will be an NWA Midsouth title match featuring “The Human Highlight Reel” Austin Lane against Midsouth Idol Derrick King. NWA is also working on adding former ECW champion, TNA XDivision and WWE Lightweight champion Jerry Lynn for a possible three-way main event. Semi-main event is a tag-team match featuring Ft. Richardson’s own Chainsaw Charlie and Wasilla’s own AK Lighting taking on MK 2 and Atomic Dog. The feature match for the Alaska State Heavyweight Title pits champion Michael Maddness against.

Adult tickets are $10, while students grades five through 12 get in for $5. Younger children admitted free with paid adult. Tickets go on sale Feb. 7 and can be purchased through members of the Colony Knights Boosters, Colony football coaches and members of the team. For more information, call Kirk Bricker at 715-1160.

Mount Marathon applications accepted

Applications for the 84th running of the Mount Marathon race in Seward during the July 4th holiday will be accepted through March 31. Lottery results will be announced mid-April. Applications are online at seward.com. Cost is $45 for adults and $25 for juniors.
