Register for Wasilla Youth Baseball

Players can now register to participate in the Wasilla Youth Baseball organization this summer.

Those interested can register online at wasillayouthbaseball.org anytime through March 31, or in person at Wasilla Middle School from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on March 28, or 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the AT&T on April 4.

Players can also register in person during business hours at Valley Trophy, located along the Palmer-Wasilla Highway.

Spring hockey

program scheduled

Eric Troisi, a longtime local hockey coach and former collegiate player, is hosting his 17th annual spring hockey program, March 26-April 7 at the Wasilla Multi-Use Sports Complex.

Players receive 7.5 hours of ice time for a cost of $175. The cost for goalies is $95. Family discounts are also available.

The clinic is separated into three groups. The first-year squirts and younger players meet March 26-31, April 2 and April 5-7 from 6-7 p.m.

The second-year squirts and peewees meet March 26-31, April 2 and April 5-7 from 6-7 p.m.

The bantams, midget and high school players meet from March 26-31, April 2 and April 5-7 from 6-7 p.m.

Houston in search of volleyball coach

Houston High School is in search of a head volleyball coach for the 2009 prep season.

Those interested are asked to contact HHS activities director Norm Bouchard at 892-9404.

The Matanuska Baseball Umpires Association is in search of baseball umpires for the 2009 high school season.

Register for Palmer Little League

The Palmer Little League has scheduled its registration dates for the upcoming season.

Those interested can register March 28 from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the AT&T Sports Center.

MYFA registration

Mat Su Youth Football Association is asking parents to register their football players early this year.

Team space is limited. Only the first paid players will be put on the team list of their choice. Those interested can register online now. The cost is $199. Visit www.myfa.net to register and for more information.

Miners schedule annual raffle

The Mat-Su Miners have scheduled their annual Grand Slam Raffle for April 25 at Raven Hall on the Alaska State Fairgrounds.

Doors open at 7 p.m. and the drawing begins at 8:30 p.m.

Only 350 raffle tickets will be sold. Each ticket is $100 and admits two people to the drawing. There is free food and beverages for the ticket holders. Those who purchase a raffle ticket also receive a pair of season passes, good for admission into all home games during the 2009 season.

The raffle will feature more than $15,000 worth of prizes. The first ticket drawn is worth $550, the 175th ticket drawn is worth $500, the 349th ticket drawn is worth $1,000 and the 350th ticket drawn earns one fan $10,000.

There will also be 14 tickets drawn worth $150 and two others worth $250. To purchase a raffle ticket, call 745-6401.

March of Dimes

walk scheduled

The March of Dimes March for Babies is scheduled for March 28 at the AT&T Sports Center.

Registration begins at 9 a.m. and the walk begins at 10.

Those who participate are asked to bring indoor shoes.
