The Mat-Su Valley Frontiersman and the Mat-Su Sea Hawkers recognized the finalists and the recipients of the Mat-Su Valley Frontiersman/Mat-Su Sea Hawkers Student Athletes of the Year during an awards banquet Sunday evening at Evangelo’s restaurant in Wasilla.
Palmer senior Fischer Adams and Redington senior Mya Campbell were each named a 2024 student athlete of the year. Each received a $1,500 scholarship courtesy of the Sea Hawkers.
The winners of the annual coach of the year and MatSuSports Awards were also recognized.
Palmer boys basketball coach TJ Fullmer was named the boys coach of the year. Wasilla volleyball mentor Katie Oxspring was named the girls coach of the year.
Wasilla senior Mason Holler and Palmer senior Larkin Christiansen earned the MatSuSports Award, selected by Bruce Eggleston of matsusports.net.
Colony seniors Nolan Gallagher and Rylee McIntosh, Houston seniors Carter Seime and Grace Gillespie, Palmer senior Larkin Christiansen, Redington senior Brody Richard, and Wasilla seniors Eli Cox and Rylee Pitney were also finalists recognized during the event.
The Frontiersman will publish a special publication in early May with more on the event and the recipients.
