Wasilla senior Kelsey Cottle has been named the Mat-Su Valley Frontiersman Student–Athlete of the Week.
Cottle helped the Wasilla High girls basketball team earn a 2010-11 4A state championship on Saturday at the Sullivan Arena in Anchorage. Cottle scored a game-high nine points and blocked nine shots during a 36-30 win over Juneau-Douglas in the championship game.
“This is what we’ve worked for, for four years,” Cottle, one of five seniors and a pair of four-year starters on the team, said after the game. “I couldn’t ask for anything better. I wanted this for my coach and my teammates.”
Cottle was named to the state championships all-tournament team following the final game.
The Mat-Su Valley Frontiersman congratulates Cottle on her success.
