Houston High School’s Amber Acton has been named the Mat-Su Valley Frontiersman Student–Athlete of the Week.
Acton was named the most valuable player of the Nikiski Tip-Off tournament after leading the Houston Hawks girls basketball squad to the tourney title at Nikiski High School over the weekend. With Acton’s lead, the Hawks used wins over Dillingham, Skyview and the host Bulldogs to score the round-robin championship.
Acton scored 19 points during a 46-28 win over Skyview on Friday. She was 3-for-6 from beyond the three-point arc and also collected four rebounds and four steals. The following night, Acton posted seven rebounds and seven steals during a 44-24 win over Nikiski.
Acton is a multi-sport athlete at Houston and veteran of the girls’ basketball squad.
