Overnight Sunday, three to 10 inches of snow fell across Matanuska-Susitna Borough (MSB) Alaska, adding more snow to the piles propelling this winter season’s snowfall to just under 90 inches of snowfall for the season. Anchorage is currently about 13 inches away from reaching 100 inches of snowfall in a season for only the ninth time in recorded history.
As the snowflakes waned, residents were left wondering where to push the snow that had accumulated, but were also greeted with sunshine and clearer skies, which also means colder temperatures are likely to roll in.
According to the National Weather Service, a few areas in the Mat-Su can expect high temperatures in the 20s through the rest of the week. The cooler weather will stay with through the rest of this week, with a slight chance of snowfall predicted.
Looking ahead into next week, there are signs of warmer weather returning to the state. This could mean an increased potential for more snow in the southern half of the state. For more information, please visit the National Weather Service at: www.weather.gov
