The YMCA, often referred to as “the Y,” is a national, faith-based organization that works to improve the lives of children and families as a whole, in addition to the greater communities they represent.
According to Pittman, their team has established several connections with local schools, businesses, other nonprofits, and other community groups to support local students with a variety of programs throughout the year.
The Mat-Su YMCA created before and after school programs for places like Tanaina Elementary with the intent to continue building connections across the district, issuing the following statement in a recent media release, “The Mat-Su YMCA programs are the missing social links for our youth and families in this growing Borough of ours… We are a group of dedicated volunteers working for youth development, providing support for a healthy community, offering community-driven and affordable programs, and leading with social responsibility to have a place for everyone to belong.”
