The team of the Mat-Su Youth Action Board (YAB) is looking to hire two new members as Independent Contractors (also known as Consultants) in collaboration with the Alaska Coalition on Housing and Homelessness (AKCH2) to support the ongoing mission of ending youth homelessness by improving the local homelessness response system through policy advocacy and leadership, with the end goal of securing a long-term career opportunity or full-time position.
Mat-Su YAB members work directly with a AKCH2 Staff member to advise, execute, and design core components of the intervention in Alaska Balance of State like supportive programming, youth engagement, and orientation activities.
As a YAB, youth and young adults are not just a participant, but a role model for other youth aspiring to be leaders, as the YAB offers an opportunity and a challenge to hone youth leadership skills, and to guide and inspire future leaders. Young people's motivation, energy, and commitment not only influence fellow YAB members and peers, but also collective engagements. As a Youth Advisory Board member representing the Mat-Su Region and the Alaska Coalition on Housing and Homelessness, other fellow YAB members look up to their peers for guidance and support.
The Mat-Su YAB is looking for members, preferably be between the ages of 18 and 24 or under the age of 30 with a lived experience of homelessness and experience navigating Alaska’s homelessness prevention systems. Members should also have an interest or willingness to learn about the homelessness response system.
