The Matanuska Christian School Eagles boys and girls basketball teams played games Friday and Saturday with mixed success.
The Eagles' girls broke a 14-14 tie at halftime to charge ahead for a 31-24 victory over Cornerstone Spartans
Friday.
The Eagles use a balanced attack of scoring with Jubilee Brost leading the Matanuska scorers with 11 points, Heather Richardson adding 10 and Nicole Johnson contributing seven.
Brina Corup scored 18 points for Cornerstone to lead all scorers in the game.
The Eagles girls played Seldovia Saturday, falling to the Sea Otters 47-16. The Eagles played to an 8-8 tie by the end of the first quarter, but couldn't hold the Seldovia attack.
Richardson scored six points to lead the Eagles, with Brost adding five.
The Matanuska Christian boys surged from a 15-14 halftime deficit to take a 64-51 win over Cornerstone.
Arlon Mongeau scored 22 points to lead all scorers in the game. Chris Gedicks scored 19 points, with Thomas Kelly adding 15 for the Eagles.
Levi Fischer led the Spartans' scoring attack with 21 points. John Vereide scored 15, with Taft Tracy adding 12. Fischer, Vereide and Tracy each poured in two three pointers to keep the Spartans close.
The Eagles boys' next met Seldovia Saturday at the Mat-Su Borough gym, falling to the Sea Otters 63-46. The Eagles stayed close to Seldovia through three quarters of play, but were unable to sustain the Sea Otters' surge for 22 points in the fourth quarter.
The Eagles began 2A region play yesterday at Anderson, with the championship game culminating Saturday.
