Matchups for region baseball tourney announced

KENAI — First-round matchups for the Southcentral Conference Championships baseball tournament have been announced, and Colony is a top seed in the event, which starts Thursday morning in Kenai.

Colony, the top seed from the North Division, meets fourth-seeded Kodiak Thursday at 1 p.m. Second-seeded Wasilla plays third-seeded Homer Thursday at 10 a.m.

Palmer, the No. 3 seed from the North, meets second-seeded Kenai at 1 p.m. Houston, the fourth seed from the North, faces the South’s top seed, Soldotna, Thursday at 10 a.m.

The event is now a double-elimination tournament and will continue through Saturday in Kenai. The champion of the winner’s bracket will receive the first of two automatic berths to the upcoming state tournament. Teams can also fight through a loser’s bracket to earn the second automatic bid.

Championship semifinals are slated for Thursday evening with the winners of those games meeting in the bracket’s final Friday at 7 p.m.

The loser of the championship game will fall into a game against the top team from the loser’s bracket in an elimination game Saturday at 1 p.m. The winner of that game gets the second automatic bid.

• Game 2: Palmer (N3) vs. Kenai (S2), Thursday, 1 p.m., Oiler Park

• Game 3: Soldotna (S1) vs. Houston (N4), Thursday, 10 a.m., Kenai Little League Field

Championship semifinals:
