The Matanuska Christian School girls' basketball squad advanced to the 2A state tournament after winning a trio of games in the 2A District II regional tournament in Healy last week.
MCS will compete in the 2A state tourney held at Service High School this weekend.
The Eagles went 3-1 in the regional tourney, suffering their only loss to Tok in the
finals.
MCS notched a spot in the state tourney with a 45-42 win over host Tri-Valley. The Eagles used a 14-6 run in the third-quarter to get past the Viking Warriors. Junior Aimee Doerr scored eight of her game high 12 points in the third quarter. Nicole Johnson also chipped in 12 points in the game.
Tok defeated MCS 35-26 in the title game.
"We always feel we can beat them," MCS head coach Scott Richardson said of Tok. "We fall just short."
Jubilee Brost led the Eagles with nine points.
The Eagles coasted through the first two rounds of the region tourney with a 56-36 win over Galena and a 44-38 win over Tri-Valley.
Brost was named the region MVP following the tournament.
"She just handles the ball all of the time," Richardson said of Brost. "She makes some great assists."
Johnson was named to the All-Tournament team and junior Heather Richardson was named to the All-Academic squad. MCS also won the team sportsmanship award.
The Eagles finished the regular season
17-3.
