PALMER — Pending approval by the Regulatory Commission of Alaska, Matanuska Electric Association members will see a 1.03 percent increase in base rates beginning the first week of July.
For the average MEA member who uses about 700 kilowatt-hours of electricity per month, the increase is about 80 cents per month.
MEA’s Board of Directors voted May 12 to authorize the increase, effective the third quarter of 2014.
Under the rules set by the Regulatory Commission of Alaska, MEA is allowed to file quarterly for limited increases or decreases in base rates, provided that the adjustments stay within certain financial parameters.
