MEA’S Operation Roundup program awards $25,000 to local organizations

PALMER — Matanuska Electric Association’s Charitable Foundation awarded four grants totaling $25,000 to local nonprofits July 23.

Grant recipients are:

· Access Alaska — $10,000: Assistance for individuals in need in the Mat-Su.

· Valley Residential Services — $2,500: Digital document storage equipment to increase workforce efficiency and secure confidential records.

· Wasilla Area Seniors Inc. — $10,000: Make the senior center more accessible by installing a double door and handicap push button.

· Wasilla Youth Soccer Association Inc. — $2,500: Increase recreational opportunities and relieve congestion with field No. 2 installation and parking improvements at Bumpus Recreational Area.

All grants from the Roundup program are awarded to nonprofit organizations and individuals in need within MEA’s service area. Applications are reviewed quarterly in January, April, July and October by the volunteer board of directors of the MEA Charitable Foundation.

Members of Matanuska Electric Association fund Operation Roundup by rounding up their electric bills to the nearest dollar. Since the program began in 2001, MEA members have donated $564,337.17 to local non-profits and individuals in need.
