Medical care can do better

To the editor:

Boy, talk about discrimination. I have had so much trouble with all the orthopedic and podiatrists accepting my insurance. My insurance has the words “VA tacked” onto the end of it. I have “Champ VA” insurance because my husband has 100 percent military service connect disabled.

And for some reason when they hear “VA,” it’s a big no. I have to pay up front and bill it myself. This is really bad when doctors discriminate against patients because it involves a disabled veteran. No, he can’t be seen on base either. He’s disabled, not active military. I think it’s shameful here in Alaska.
