MEADOW LAKES — The State Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed Wednesday that a body found in Meadow Lakes is that of a 33-year-old Palmer man missing since Dec. 29, 2013.

Alaska State Troopers say the family of Corey Newell reported him missing Jan. 2 after he was last seen en route to a friend’s house on his snowmachine. Searchers found the snowmachine he was riding a few days later abandoned, but operational, on Cloudy Lake.

Troopers say a caller reported finding the body in the woods in the Meadow Lakes area off Pittman Road around 4:47 p.m., Feb. 12.

“The cause and circumstances surrounding his death are still under investigation,” troopers said in a press release.

Friends and family described Newell as a talented artist, a wonderful, kind and caring man with an unforgettable smile.
