PALMER — In advance of the annual Matanuska Electric Association election for board of directors, Toastmasters and the Mat-Su Valley Frontiersman will sponsor a “Meet the MEA Board Candidates” event from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., April 11 at Mat-Su Senior Services in Palmer.
Ballots for this year’s election already have been mailed to co-op members. This year, members received two election mailings, one with their digital password and a second with complete electronic voting instructions and each member’s voter number to use for online voting.
A state rule change introduced in the Legislature in 2010 by former Sen. Linda Menard makes online voting possible for utilities such as MEA and Matanuska Telephone Association and Matanuska Valley Federal Credit Union. MTA and MVFCU already have used online voting.
To access the election website, members need their voter number and a password, which were mailed separately, to login at https://eballot4.votenet.com/mea.
Electronic voting ends at 5 p.m., April 22. For more information or election help, contact Election Overseer — Fosselman and Associates in Palmer — at (855) 761-9111 or email meaelection@alaska.com.
Members also can vote by mail or in person at the annual membership meeting, which begins at 5 p.m., April 23 at Raven Hall on the Alaska State Fairground in Palmer. The business meeting begins at 6 p.m. and is open to all members of the 72-year-old electrical cooperative.
Up for election this year are current directors David Glines of the Eagle River District and Robert “Bob” Doyle of the Susitna District, who are running unopposed. Candidates for the Matanuska District seat are Jamey Duhamel and Marvin L. Yoder.
Also on this year’s ballot are nine proposed bylaws changes.
