PALMER -- Two Wasilla men are in jail on felony charges after a series of fights prompted by a rude comment about one man's girlfriend.
Dexter D. Ivie, 52, is charged with third-degree assault, second-degree misconduct involving weapons, first-degree vehicle theft, and two counts of third-degree criminal mischief, according to Alaska State Troopers. Anthony D. Conner, 21, is charged with third-degree assault, second-degree misconduct involving weapons, third-degree misconduct involving weapons and driving with a suspended license, troopers said.
Both men were lodged at Mat-Su Pre-Trial Facility on $10,000 bail. Ivie made bail Thursday and Conner remained in jail Monday morning.
Trouble began the evening of Oct. 18 at the Borealis Beach Club, where Loren Dodds was having a drink with Ivie. Dodds told troopers he made a comment to Christina Smith and it angered Ivie, who hit Dodds on the side of his head, according to charging documents.
Smith is Dodds' ex-girlfriend, and is now with Ivie, troopers said. Both men were kicked out of the bar for fighting, and left in separate vehicles.
Dodds told troopers that Ivie made repeated harassing calls to him, challenging Dodds to fight, charging documents said. Finally, Dodds told Ivie, "I'm at 3811 Seagul Street in Palmer. Come on over," according to documents.
Ivie arrived at the residence at 3 a.m., accompanied by Anthony Conner. Dodds told troopers he grabbed a baseball bat from his pickup truck for protection.
Dodds admitted hitting Ivie in the head three or four times with the bat after Ivie lunged at him, according to the trooper report. Ivie reportedly grabbed the bat and shouted at Conner, "Shoot him. Shoot him" as Dodds ran into the woods.
Dodds told troopers he saw Ivie hit Dodds' pickup truck several times with the baseball bat.
Troopers were alerted to the situation by Valley Hospital personnel when Ivie went there for treatment of injuries to his head, face and chest. Troopers said Ivie confirmed many details of Dodds' story, except Ivie didn't mention a firearm being used. Troopers found a .45-caliber casing on the ground in the middle of Dodds' driveway, along with blood stains on the ground, charging documents said.
Ivie also said Dodds struck him during the encounter at the Borealis Beach Club, and that Dodds had made harassing calls to Ivie after the incident.
