Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Ah, springtime in the Valley. The days are getting longer and the sound of ATVs fill the air.
I think the Wasilla City Council has made a good move in wanting to name the Multi-Use Sports Complex after former borough mayor Curtis D. Menard. Although I’ve only lived in the Valley for a couple of years, I always found Menard to be personable, approachable and straightforward. If you asked him a direct question, you got a direct answer. His memorial service was especially moving. Any man would be proud to leave the legacy he has.
The naming of the MUSC for Menard may prove a little wordy for our sports writers, though, who cover hockey at the complex. Especially for Alaska Avalanche home games, which are played at the complex’s ice arena, which is already named for Menard’s son, Curtis C. Menard. So, it looks like the Avs will play in the Curtis C. Menard II Memorial Ice Arena at the Curtis D. Menard Memorial Sports Center. Whew, that’s a mouthful.
