Menard run Saturday

PALMER -- The annual Curtis Menard II Memorial Run is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. Saturday along the Palmer-Wasilla Highway.

The event will feature both a 5-kilometer and 10-K runs. The 5-K run is now recognized as the official state championship.

After last year's event, race organizers teamed with USA Track and Field to officially sanction the race and offer cash prizes. A $1,000 prize will be given to the top male and female in the race.

Recently organizers have also added a $500 prize for second place and $250 for third.

The race is slated to begin at 10 a.m. The 5-K race will start at the Soapy Dog Pet Wash along the Palmer-Wasilla Highway and the 10-K race will begin at Pioneer Peak Elementary.

The finish line is at the Wasilla Lake Church of the Nazarene.
