Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Big Lake resident Michael Froehlich, 38, died at Valley Hospital in Palmer on Jan. 11, 2003.
A service of sharing and celebrating Michael's life will be held at his uncle Mike's and aunt Ginni's residence in Eagle River at 5 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 17.
Mr. Froehlich was born May 11, 1964, in Roswell, N.M. He came to Alaska in 1981, first residing in Anchorage then later moved to the Big Lake area where he resided until the time of his death.
He had worked as a master chef and was most recently employed as a journeyman carpenter.
His hobbies and special interests included working on cars and taking care of his aquariums of tropical fish.
His family said, "Our dad was a very wise and wonderful man. He cared a lot about us, his loving family and his great friends. He could always be counted on and he will be missed by all whose lives he touched."
Mr. Froehlich is survived by his daughters Nickoll Froehlich and Tazhia Rush of Wasilla; mother Judy Knapp and stepfather Jim Knapp of Eureka, Mo.; father, Richard Froehlich of Porterville, Calif.; grandmother, Margaret Froehlich of Eden, N.C.; uncles and aunts, Michael and Ginni Burbridge of Eagle River, and Pat and George Heim of Cooper Landing; sister Jennifer Wattler of Festus, Mo.; brother-in-law Jim Wattler of Eureka, Mo.; stepsister Tammy Carr; nieces and nephews Stephanie, Jimmy and David Wattler, Logan Day, Zachary and Lilly Carr; and cousins Joe Michel, Oliver, Kailey and Matthew Burbridge
Arrangements were made by Valley Funeral Home & Crematory of Wasilla.
