Palmer resident Michael Allan Schulz, 44, died Jan. 1, 2004, at his home in Palmer with family by his side. A visitation was held Friday, Jan. 9, 2004, at Kehl's Palmer Mortuary. A memorial service followed at Lazy Mountain Bible Church.
Mr. Schulz was born April 2, 1959, in Manhattan, Kan. He came to Alaska in July 1980, and later built his home on Knik River Road on the outskirts of Palmer. There he and his wife Angie raised their daughters Lyndsi, Hannah and Rosie. He was a very proud Alaskan resident for 23 years, having lost his heart to the towering mountains and rugged wilderness of places such as Copper Center and Homer. His available time found him hunting in the Wrangells, fishing on the Copper River and flying over Mount McKinley with his friends. Besides being a loving father and outdoors enthusiast he was a gifted musical artist. On most weekends he could be found playing his guitar at local coffee shops and restaurants. Michael poured his heart into leading worship services at Lazy Mountain Bible Church. His faith in the Lord Jesus Christ was evident to all who knew him.
For 17 years, he built a business as a self-employed general contractor and served Palmer and the surrounding area. He was proud of the work he did through Knik River Construction.
His family wrote: "He was a leader and a servant and he will be profoundly missed."
He is survived by his three daughters, Lyndsi and husband Christopher Pollock, Hannah Schulz and Rosie Schulz; granddaughter, Sarah Pollock; parents, Bernard and Carolyn Schulz; sister, Debbie Dempsey and her family; and his former wife, Angela Kerr.
Arrangements were with Kehl's Palmer Mortuary.
