Once moving to Alaska, Mike immediately went to work for R&M Consultants of Anchorage. His job allowed him to visit different areas of Alaska and he had recently returned from a job in Antarctica. Mike and his family shared a love for hockey. Not only did he follow the LA Kings, but he also played city league, refereed youth hockey and had worked part time with the Anchorage Aces. Mike was a kind man and made friends easily. He had numerous friends throughout the state introduced to him through his job, his travels and through his love of hockey.
Mike is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Michael Walter Yunker and Katelyn Yunker of Wasilla, Alaska, his siblings; Sherrie, Edward, Robert, Brenda, Donald and Rebecca, and his many beloved grandchildren who lovingly referred to him as “Papa”. Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Edward Louis Yunker Jr. and Roberta English Yunker as well as his brother Jerald.
A celebration of life will be held at a yet to be determined place and time to allow for Mike’s family and many friends to be in attendance.
