Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Michael Romeo, a longtime resident of Palmer, passed away following a long illness, on December 4, 2015. When Mr. Romeo moved to Alaska he worked for Akeela House as a substance abuse counselor and the U.S. Postal Service as a postal clerk. He served on the Palmer Zoning and Planning Committee. He was retired from the Postal Service and most recently retired from the Mat-Su School District as a janitor and as a summer lead, training students in maintenance and landscaping.
He was born in Brooklyn, New York. He served in the Armed Forces, stationed in Germany. An avid sports fan, he played softball and basketball on recreational adult teams. He was a relentless supporter of the New York Yankees, New York Giants, Rangers and Boston Celtics. When his children were young, he volunteered as a coach for MYAC basketball and baseball. He enjoyed the Alaska summers, camping and fishing with friends and family.
Mr. Romeo is survived by his wife, Barbara; daughters, Amber and Breanna; son, Michael Philip; and his granddaughters, Isabella and Zoe; as well as his parents, Joseph and Theresa Romeo; his brothers, Philip and Joseph; and in-laws, Michael, Linda, Toni, Richard and Diane; nephews and spouses, Rich, Christy, Phil, and Shelby.
A celebration of life is being planned for later in the year.
