Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Palmer resident Mildred Florence Shoop, 84, died Nov. 12, 2001, of a heart attack, at Valley Hospital.
No services will be held. Her ashes will be scattered, commingled with her husband's, on the bluff at Anchor Point.
Mrs. Shoop was born Nov. 3, 1917, in Schuylkill City, Pa. She graduated from Porter Township High School in Tower City, Pa. She came to Alaska in June 1958, residing in Anchorage until 1975, and in Anchor Point from 1975 to 2000.
She had been self-employed as a beautician on Klatt Road in Anchorage, from which she retired in 1975.
She was a founding member of the Anchor Point Church of the Nazarene. She loved all animals, especially cats. She enjoyed flower gardening, painting and traveling around Alaska.
Her family said: "She was a wonderful wife and mother, who always put her family first. She will be greatly missed."
She was preceded in death by her spouse, George F. Shoop, and parents, Polly and Monroe Yoder.
Survivors are her son and daughter-in-law, Darrell and Karen Shoop of Wasilla; brother, Wilmer Yoder of Palmer; and nieces and nephews in Pennsylvania.
Memorial donations may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
