Milestones

The word “milestone” has carried additional meaning for me as of late.

Trim to Win has been all about milestones — seeing certain numbers on the scale, achieving specific goals. In some cases, a milestone has literally meant hitting a mile.

It wasn’t very long ago that jogging a continuous mile seemed impossible. Heck, jogging half that distance seemed impossible.

But I set small goals.

First it would be a quarter-mile. Then a half-mile. A half-mile seemed to be my limit for weeks, until one day I decided I am just going to do it.

And I did.

I feel I cleared a significant hurdle that day. Since that point, jogging a mile has just become part of my routine. Now, each time I hit the AT&T Sports Center I start with a mile.

Late last week, I was able to go a step further. I started with a mile, did my workout and ended with another mile. That was the first time I ran two miles in a day in more than 15 years.

But this week, I was able to hit another milestone. I ran two consecutive miles. And that was after a session with Krista, the AT&T Sports Center personal trainer.

Jogging on the track inside the Sports Center has become a staple in my workout. I jogged 2.5 miles today and have hit at least two miles four of the five days this week.

Weight loss can be tackled in the same way. Don’t start out by saying you want to lose 50 pounds. Begin with 10. Then go for 20. Once you hit 20, go for 30.

But also don’t let the number on the scale be the sole measurement of your success. Let clothing be you guide. Set a goal to drop a size, then two, and so on.

I really believe, it’s all about little victories, setting goals and achieving them. And don’t forget to be proud about the goals you do hit while you’re working toward another.

Continued luck to all during the final stretch and long after this competition is over,

JB
