RJ Elmore enjoyed his best performance of the summer and led the Mat-Su Miners to a 7-0 win over the Chugiak Chinooks Wednesday at Lee Jordan Field in Chugiak.
Elmore tossed a three-hit shutout. He fanned five and walked only two. The 6-foot-5 right-hander earned a win in his second consecutive start, and is now 3-0 this season with a 1.84 earned run average.
Alex Vergara sparked the Miners with a two-run double in the third, and later scored on a Nick Cirelli single.
Carter Young finished 3 for 4 for the Miners. Vergara and Casey Sunseri added two hits each. Seven different Miners scored a run.
Mat-Su improved to 21-10 with the win.
