Before the rain washed most of their weekend away, the Mat-Su Miners managed to get six innings in before it really started to pour.
Mat-Su blanked the Peninsula Oilers 6-0 during a rain-shortened game Friday night at Hermon Brothers Field in Palmer.
Chandler David threw five stellar innings on the mound to earn the win. David fanned 10, while walking only one. The Oilers finished with four hits in the loss.
Steven Lancia smacked his second home run of the summer, a two-run shot, to spark the Miners at the plate. Nick Cirelli, Carter Young and Justin Steele also drove in runs.
Mat-Su improved to 22-10 with the win. The Miners also had a game postponed and another canceled during the weekend due to rain. Mat-Su’s game against the Oilers on Saturday is postponed until and will be part of a doubleheader. Mat-Su’s game against the Anchorage Adult All-Stars on Sunday was canceled.
The Miners return home to host the Anchorage Glacier Pilots on July 21 and July 23. Each game starts at 6 p.m.
