PALMER — In their final home stand of the 2013 season, the Mat-Su Miners put on a post-Fourth-of-July fireworks show of their own at Hermon Brothers field Saturday. Already leading the Chugiak Chinooks 4-1 going into the bottom of the seventh inning, the Miners’ bats exploded for nine runs over the next two innings to turn the fairly close game into a 13-2 blowout. Ben Wylly led the way for Mat-Su at the plate, batting 3-for-4 with 2 RBI, while teammate Micheal Thomas hit 3-for-5 with an RBI in helping starter Ty Schlottmann pick up his fourth win of the season.

The Miners play their last home game of the season today, another against the Chinooks, at 4 p.m. at Hermon Brothers Field. It’s also Fan Appreciation Day, which means admission is free.

See Tuesday’s Frontiersman for more on the weekend series with the Chinooks.
