PALMER — The Mat-Su Miners had a scheduled off-day this week, with no action on Thursday night. But Mat-Su had an unexpected day off as well.
Mat-Su’s home contest against the Anchorage Glacier Pilots, slated for Wednesday, was rained out. The game was rescheduled for July 1, and the Miners and Pilots will face off in a doubleheader, beginning at 6 p.m. at Hermon Brothers Field in Palmer.
It was the second rain out of the summer for the Miners. The Miners have only had four nights off since the team debuted June 8.
Mat-Su improved to 6-3 in Alaska Baseball League play with a 10-4 win over the Chugiak Chinooks Tuesday at Hermon Brothers Field.
Cameron Newell and Nick Senzel both homered in the win. Senzel enjoyed one of his best nights of the summer, finishing 3 for 4 with three runs and three RBI. Newell added two hits, two RBI and a run. Mat-Su finished with 15 total hits. Every Miner in the lineup had at least one hit. Five had at least two or more.
Seven of those 15 hits went for extra bases.
Ryan Oglesby earned the win in relief, pitching a scoreless 1 1/3 innings.
Mat-Su is scheduled to continue play Friday at 6:30 against the Chinooks at Loretta French Field in Chugiak.
