The Mat-Su Miners used a pair of home runs to get past the American Legion All-Stars in an exhibition game Friday at Hermon Brothers field in Palmer.
The Miners scored a 6-4 win over a squad made up of players from the Valley’s American Legion programs, the Palmer Pioneers and the Wasilla Road Warriors.
Mat-Su’s Nathan Rose hit a two-run shot to break a 4-4 tie and provide the go-ahead runs. Cade Manning’s two-run homer was part of the Miners four-run first.
Bryant Marks, of the Palmer Pioneers, provide the big moment for the local legion team. Marks tripled to left and drove in two runs, Pedro Camacho, of the Warriors, scored on the play to cut the deficit to 4-3. The Mat-Su throw to the plate was an error, and Marks scored to knot the game at 4.
