PALMER — When it rains it pours, which is just fine for the Mat-Su Miners, who extinguished the Athletes In Action Fire Thursday 12-3 for their ninth straight win.
Although it drizzled much of the day, the weather let up enough for the Alaska Baseball League rivals to take positions at Hermon Brothers Field. But it wasn’t until the late innings of the game that the Miners’ bats would heat up.
Tied 2-2 with the AIA Fire going into the bottom of the sixth inning, the Miners exploded for 10 runs in the sixth, seventh and eighth innings, finishing with 15 hits for the game. The Fire attempted a comeback in the top of the ninth inning, but fizzled.
With the win, the Miners remain atop the ABL standings at 21-7 in league play, 22-8 overall.
