Miners score win over Pilots in Anchorage

PALMER — Spencer Henson came through once again for the Mat-Su Miners.

Henson, an Oral Roberts sophomore in his second summer with the Miners, drove in the go-ahead run and led Mat-Su to a 4-2 win over the Anchorage Glacier Pilots Friday night in Anchorage.

Henson, who finished 2 for 4 with an RBI in the win, doubled in the top of the seventh. Tyler Bosseti scored on the play. Bosetti drew a walk earlier in the inning.

Henson’s RBI gave Mat-Su the 3-2 lead. The Miners added to the advantage in the eighth. Drew Swift singles, stole second base and quickly scored on a Kona Quiggle single.

Mat-Su took a very early lead. Quiggle led off the game with a triple and scored on a passed ball. Anchorage scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning. But Mat-Su tied the score at 2 in the top of the second when Swift drove in Danny Wright with a single.

Ian Churchill earned the win in relief. Bryce Tassin fanned three hitters in the ninth to earn the save.

Mat-Su improved to 8-7 with the win.
