The Anchorage Bucs used a 6-0 win to earn a split in a two-game series against the Mat-Su Miners at Hermon Brothers Field on Friday.
The Bucs clobbered Miner starter Brett Bruneel for five runs in the fifth inning. Anchorage scored another run off Mat-Su closer Josh McLaughlin in the ninth.
Thursday, Mat-Su scored three runs in the bottom of the ninth to earn a 3-2 come-from-behind victory over Anchorage.
James McCarthy posted a walk-off run-scoring single to give the Miners the win. Mat-Su loaded the bases and McCarthy singled into left field.
Michael Taylor started the Mat-Su rally, scoring on a wild pitch early in the inning. Ryan Krauser drove in another run after he was hit by a pitch in midway through the ninth.
Matt Bransfield and Nick Haley singled in the inning. Matt McBride reached on a throwing error.
Cody Campbell pitched two innings of scoreless relief and earned the win. Starter Steven Calicutt pitched seven strong innings for Mat-Su. The East Tennessee State product struck out six and walked just one.
Anchorage starter Sung-Wei Tseng had a no-hitter going through seven innings. Krauser notched a bloop base hit to lead off the eighth inning to break up the no hitter.
The Miners final home game of the season is Monday at 6 p.m. against Athletes in Action.
As of press time Saturday, the Miners stood at 19-11 in Alaska Baseball League play, five games behind the first-place Alaska Goldpanners.
Mat-Su ends the season with a three-game road trip, facing the Anchorage Bucs on Tuesday and the Oilers twice in Kenai.
