The miners have officially started non-league play 5-0 with an 11-1 mercy rule win over the Chugiak River Chinooks. While these games don’t towards the conference standings the Miners have still shown their dominance early.
Mat-Su plated 4 runs in the first inning after River Chinooks starting pitcher Luke Rolland lost control.
Miners Starter Michael Cunneely pitched a gem throwing for five of the seven innings surrendering just one hit and one walk. Josh Jansen pitched the rest of the way and surrendered one run but no hits.
Mat-Su added four runs in the 4th, one in the 6th, and two in the bottom of the 7th to finish off the 10-run mercy rule.
Seven different Miners recorded a RBI and the whole teams struck out just twice all game.
Mat-Su will start league games that will count towards league standings Wednesday when they host the Anchorage Glacier Pilots for the second time this season.
