Miners sweep Pilots in a doubleheader in Palmer

PALMER — The Anchorage Glacier Pilots flew into Palmer and swept a key doubleheader against the Mat-Su Miners. Anchorage returned to the Valley Sunday for another pair of games. But this time, the Miners grounded the Pilots.

Mat-Su scored a 3-0 shutout victory and followed with a 2-1 win over Anchorage at Hermon Brothers Field in Palmer.

Kyler Bush and Jacob McNairy, two of the top arms in the Alaska Baseball League, combined to throw seven innings of shutout baseball. Bush, who sports a 1.32 earned run average, scattered four hits over six. He fanned five and didn’t walk a batter. Bush is now 4-0 for the Miners. McNairy pitched the seventh to notch his eighth save, which is second in the league.

Kody Huff led Mat-Su at the plate, with two hits, a run and an RBI. Huff and Collin Montez tripled during the win. Tanner Carlson also drove in a run.

Brett Erwin allowed just one earned run over five innings to lead Mat-Su to a 2-1 win. Grant Sloan struck out the side in the seventh to record his first save of the summer.

Erik Webb led the Miners with two hits and a run. Aaron Walters drove in a run.
