The Mat-Su Miners continue to add checks to the win column.
The Miners swept a doubleheader against the Anchorage Glacier Pilots Monday at Hermon Brothers Field in Palmer.
Former Wasilla High product James Arend helped the Miners complete the sweep, earning the victory on the mound during Mat-Su’s 7-5 win over the Pilots in the second leg of the doubleheader. Arend fanned two and allowed three hits during three innings of work. Alex Magers recorded the final three outs and notched his 10th save of the summer.
Ricky Nunez blasted a solo home run to help spark the offense, Nunez finished with two hits and two runs each. Holden Breeze, Nick Cirelli and Tyler Rando also drove in runs.
Earlier in the day, Casey Rother drove in two runs to lead the Miners to a 5-3 win over Anchorage. Breeze scored twice.
