PALMER — Mat-Su Miners leadoff man Erik Webb went without a hit during his first four trips to the plate. But the Central Missouri product made the most of his final opportunity.
Webb blasted a walk-off grand slam to help lift the Miners to an 8-4 win over the Anchorage Glacier Pilots Monday night at Hermon Brothers Field in Palmer.
It marked the first homer of the season for Webb, who is now hitting .318 with eight RBIs during his first six games with the Miners.
The grand slam also capped a six-run ninth for the Miners, who trailed 4-2. Tanner Carlson and Kody Huff got things started with back-to-back walks to leadoff the inning. Aaron Walters singled to load the bases. Sam Thompson followed with a sacrifice fly to cut Anchorage’s lead to 4-3. With only one out, Huff scored on a Tyler Porter single to tie the score at 4. The next hitter, Josh Bristyan, drew another walk to load the bases for the second time in the inning.
Webb followed with the grand slam.
Mat-Su improved to 6-5 and extended its winning streak to three games.
Walters collected two hits and two runs in the win. Thompson added two RBI. Six different Miners scored at least a run.
Mat-Su posted a 5-1 win over the Anchorage Bucs Sunday afternoon in Anchorage.
Carlson finished 3 for 4 with two RBI in the win. Webb recorded two hits, two runs and an RBI. Justin Kirby had two hits and also drove in a run. Brandon White worked five innings, allowed two hits and no earned runs, and earned the win on the mound.
