Modest Mouse joins Alaska State Fair’s 2026 concert series

Modest Mouse, the band behind the hit album Good News for People Who Love Bad News, will perform at the Alaska State Fair Friday, August 28, at 7 p.m. as part of the 2026 ConocoPhillips Alaska Concert Series. Tickets went on sale Friday, March 13, at 10 a.m. AKST at alaskastatefair.org.

The indie rock mainstays began building their devoted following with 1997’s The Lonesome Crowded West before breaking into the mainstream with 2004’s Good News for People Who Love Bad News, a multi-platinum release anchored by the hit “Float On” and the gold-certified “Ocean Breathes Salty.” The album led to the band’s two 2005 Grammy nominations for Best Alternative Music Album and Best Rock Song.

In 2007, the band’s momentum crested again when We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200. Their most recent studio album, The Golden Casket, arrived in June 2021, heralding another chapter in the band’s evolution.

Described as one of the most consistent live acts today, the band rolls into 2026 with a full calendar including the Ice Cream Floats Cruise, Bonnaroo and a summer date opening for My Chemical Romance.

Modest Mouse fans can choose between concert-only tickets or tickets including Fair admission (discounted and valid only for the day of the concert). Modest Mouse is the sixth act announced to date in the 2026 ConocoPhillips Alaska Concert Series lineup, joining indie pop trio AJR on August 21; alt-rockers CAKE on August 27, genre-bending hip-hop artist BigXThaPlug on August 30, country star Max McNown on September 3 and heavy metal icons Twisted Sister on September 4.
